Forestry industry goes green
BBC News
Forestry companies and environment groups have announced an agreement to guard 72 million hectares of Canada's boreal forests from unsustainable logging. Known as the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement, it's the world's largest commercial forest conservation deal, protecting two-thirds of Canada's forests from coast to coast.
So what?Logging will be totally banned on more than a third of the land in the hope of sustaining endangered caribou populations. Currently, 29 of the 57 herds living in Canada’s boreal forest are at risk of extinction.
