People infect poultry

ScienceDaily.com

Researchers in Edinburgh have found that a strain of the common bacteria Staphylococcus aureus has spread from humans to animals. Genetic testing revealed that the bacterial strain spread from humans to chickens about 40 years ago, with the introduction of intensive poultry farming practices. The bacteria have now infected chickens around the world.

So what?

This is the first real evidence of transfer and spread of disease from humans to animals since animals were domesticated about 10,000 years ago. Economical impacts aside, this could threaten food security if other livestock are infected.
