Blind mice can see the light

Swiss and French researchers have restored sight to blind lab mice using gene therapy.

So what?

The therapy may help people with an incurable genetic eye disease. Retinitis pigmentosa destroys color-sensing cone cells. Injecting a gene from a light-sensitive bacterium into cone-cell DNA created a protein that mimics cone cell activity.
