Yellow power

BBC News

A British research team has found that a compound called curcumin found in the yellow curry spice turmeric can kill esophageal cancer cells. Not only did the curcumin start to kill the cancer cells within 24 hours, it also triggered a cell death process in which the cancer cells began to digest themselves.

So what?

Already a treatment for arthritis and dementia, curcumin could also be developed to treat cancer of the esophagus, which has increased by 50 percent in the past 30 years due to rising rates of alcohol consumption, obesity and reflux disease.
