Take a walk on the wild side!
Check your local museum, park or conservation area to see if they offer nature walks
or tours. If they don’t—why not suggest the idea? If there isn’t
a wetland close by,
you can always make your own! By creating a little wet area and planting
the right native plants, you can support wetland wildlife.
If you’re in Toronto, Canada in the summer, take part in an eco-friendly tour
of the marsh right in the Science Centre's backyard. Knowledgeable hosts will lead
you outside on a fascinating nature walk where you can explore the natural beauty
of a wetland ecosystem and view a variety of plants, animals and insects. Along
the way, you'll learn answers to nature questions such as:
- How can birds sleep standing on a wire?
- What's the difference between dragonflies and damselflies?
- What do autumn leaves and ripening bananas have in common?
- What's the only plant Monarch butterflies pick to lay eggs on?
- Or everybody's favourite: What kind of marsh bug farts bubbles out of its behind?
Schedules for Nature Walks are posted daily in the Science Centre from June through
August - weather permitting.
What else can I do?
